On 3 April 2025, the Composites Workshop took place in Delft as part of the Measuring by Light 2025 conference, organised in collaboration with COMP-ECO.
The workshop brought together leading experts from TU Delft, Ghent University, and the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) to present the latest research on composite design and optical inspection technologies. Key topics included aerospace applications, current challenges in non-destructive inspection, and a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Roger Groves.
Keynote lectures were delivered by:
Prof. Otto Bergsma, TU Delft – Design of Composite Materials and Structures
Prof. Mathias Kersemans, Ghent University, Belgium – Opportunities in the Optical Inspection of Composites
Prof. Krzysztof Dragan, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) – Aerospace Applications of Optical Inspection Technology
Participants also took part in two parallel hands-on demonstration sessions focused on shearography and Laser Doppler Vibrometry (LDV) technologies. Notably, a COMP-ECO specimen — a GFRP laminate with embedded CNT strips — was used in the shearography demonstration for composite inspection.
The event offered valuable insights and networking opportunities for researchers and professionals working with composite materials.
