COMP-ECO mid-term results

As the COMP-ECO project marks its mid-term milestone at 18 months, we are proud to report our progress and achievements. The project aims to advance multifunctional composites and smart structures, train young researchers, and strengthen the research capabilities of 3 Polish partners – TPF, WUT, and AFIT, while fostering their collaboration with international counterparts – TU Dresden and TU Delft.

In June we hold a  mid-term review meeting where the EC Project Officer and external evaluator assessed the COMP-ECO progress towards achievement of its 5 objectives:

  • Conduct joint exploratory research on multifunctional composites and smart structures

  • Create sustainable networks between senior researchers and align Partners’ research strategies

  • Provide state-of-the-art training to young researchers

  • Strengthen Polish research management capacities and administrative skills

  • Raise the Polish Partners’ research profile

Overall, the project is progressing on schedule, with active participation from all consortium partners and a lot of joint activates along the way.

The following major outcomes are achieved by COMP-ECO team for the period from January 2023 till June 2024:

  • detailed research plan was developed and is being implemented collaboratively to systematically implement technologies for continuous nondestructive quality assessment of composite structures using innovative measurement capabilities.

  • Research results had been presented to the Scientific and Industrial Advisory Board comprised of leading scientists in the area of multifunctional composites and representatives of industry working with composite structures.

  • 11 short-term stays of Polish senior researchers and 18 externships of young researchers took place at DELFT and DRESDEN

  • 2 thematic technical workshops on composites manufacturing and composites production were organized by TU Dresden and TU Delft, gathering in total 39 Polish researchers, 22 of whom are early-stage

  • 4 research management and administration workshops held for research and administration staff from Polish organizations focusing on Horizon Europe, proposal writing, project management, data management and IPR

  • several new collaborative proposals had been developed and submitted to different Horizon Europe calls by consortium partners together.

  • COMP-ECO presented at different events and exhibitions in Poland, Germany and the Netherlands, and the results of joint research project disseminated at 3 international conferences.

We are entering the next project period with full of excitement and plans for collaboration. More workshops, staff exchanges, and new opportunities are ahead.
